7 Things to Look for in a Boarding Facility
Hey y’all! It is time for Blogtober Day 10! Today I am going to be talking about What to Look for in a Boarding Facility.
I have not had to board Horses in quite some time because we have been blessed to own property but I have boarded in the past and also worked at boarding facilities in the past. Here are the things I look for in a boarding facility.
Cost: One needs to know their budget before looking so they can narrow down their search results to fit their specific price range.
Care: One of the most important things is to look at the standard of care the animals at the facility are treated with. i.e, How clean are their stalls, how clean are the water and feed bins, etc.
Turn Out: The other thing I would look for is the paddocks or pastures they are turned out in. Look at the condition of the fence, mud control, and is their paddock clear of dangerous materials. You also want to make sure there is good quality grass.
Boarding Type: The next thing you need to figure out is if you want stall or pasture board. You’ll also need to ask yourself do you want to do all the care for your horse, partial board where they do some and you do the rest, or full board where they do all the care.
Training: This might not be something everyone cares about but if you do, you may want to find out the training they offer. Some do not have trainers at the facility, others have their own team of trainers and a few will let you have your own trainer come.
Feed/Forage: Some boarding facilities that I have seen provide a feed as part of the cost of board. If you choose to do this then you will want to make sure it is a good quality feed. Likewise you want to make sure the hay that is supplied is also the best quality.
Riding: Another thing to look for is the area for riding. Does it have an Arena? If so, is the arena well maintained? Are there Horse trails? these are all things I would look for.
