2024 Garden Plans
Hey y’all! I am so ready to be outside in my garden and now it won’t be too much longer. I thought it would be fun to share what I am deciding to grow in my garden this year. This may give you ideas if you are trying to plan your 2024 garden. My husband has a riding mower with a tiller attachment on it and that’s what we use to work the ground before. I will link all of the seeds that I will be using this year.
Jalapeno: I love to use these in salsa or chili! Click here to see my fire roasted salsa recipe. These typically produce quite an abundance of peppers. Jalapeños are low in calories and have vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
Pepperoncini: These are delicious in pot roast, in salads or on sandwiches. I find this is another pepper plant that produces abundantly. These peppers are rich in antioxidants.
Bell Pepper: I love to use these in stir fries or when making tacos I will sauté bell peppers. Bell peppers are an excellent source of Vitamin C. Bell peppers also have antioxidant properties.
Onion: I plant a variety of different onions. I use them all the time when cooking. Onions are nutrient dense. They are low in calories but high in vitamins, fiber and minerals.
Green Beans: These are a garden staple in my opinion. We eat green beans all the time. Green Beans help to combat inflammation. They are a good source of folate and potassium which can help regulate blood sugar.
Zucchini: This is another great vegetable to throw in stir frys. These produce so fast it seems like you check the plant in the morning and see nothing and then by the evening you will find a ripe zucchini ready to be picked. Okay, that might be a little bit of an exaggeration but they really grow so fast! Zucchini is high in antioxidants which helps to support the immune system.
Watermelon: This is such a delicious treat in the summer time. Our chickens and goats really love it too! Watermelon is a perfect summer snack because it helps you stay hydrated and can also help to boost your immune system.
Cherry Tomatoes: These are not my favorite but I do have some friends that enjoy them and they are easy to grow in my opinion. Cherry tomatoes are a fantastic source of Vitamins A, C and E as well as B vitamin folate.
Buttercrunch Lettuce: This is another produce item that I eat a lot so it’s definitely an added bonus when it’s homegrown. You can use a lot of the other produce in your garden to add into your salad. Buttercrunch lettuce has both Vitamins A and C which have antioxidant properties. Butter lettuce also contains another group of powerful antioxidants.
Cucumbers: I don’t particularly love cucumbers. However, I do love pickles. So, I will be planting cucumbers to be able to pickle.
Carrots: I did not have very good luck with growing carrots last year but I thought I would give it another try. Carrots have many benefits. They may promote healthy vision, balance blood sugar and improve immunity.
Cauliflower: I have not grown this before so I thought I would try it this year. Cauliflower is another vegetable with great benefits. It’s low carb, nutrient dense, is rich in fiber, may help reduce inflammation and supports your body’s natural detox process.
Okra: This is another new one. I actually have never even tried okra but a friend of mine asked if I would grow it. Okra is rich in Vitamins A and C. It also contains antioxidants and is a great source of magnesium.
Asparagus: I know asparagus takes a really long time to grow. Why put it off any longer? I will be planting it this year. Asparagus is full of Vitamin K and Antioxidants.
Raspberries: I absolutely love raspberries. I am so excited to grow my own. Red raspberries contain potent antioxidants such as Vitamin C, quercetin and gallic acid.
Lemon: I will be adding a lemon tree this year so I can have fresh lemons for lemon water. Lemons are a rich source of Vitamin C, fiber, antioxidants and essential minerals such as potassium, calcium and magnesium.
Lime: I love limes when making tacos or salsa. Limes are high in Vitamin C and antioxidants.
Cilantro: I love Cilantro. I will put it in salad, salsa and burrito bowls. Cilantro helps rids the body of heavy metals, protects against oxidative stress.
