How To Deal With Criticism

Hey y’all! I hope you’re having an amazing day. Today I wanted to talk with you about criticism and how I deal with it when I receive it.

I am sure you have dealt with criticism in some form or another at some point in your life. Maybe it was from a family member, friend, co-worker, spouse or most commonly on social media. It’s not nice to read or hear criticism of any kind. In my experience I can easily let go of criticism that is on social media because most of the time they do not know me and I know it is not true.

In the case that criticism comes from someone close to you it can be especially tough because they do know you so you are more likely to believe what they say. I personally dwell on criticism longer when it comes from someone who is close to me. I read into what they’ve said much deeper than if a stranger were to even say the same thing. I’ve even been told “You need a taste of reality.” because I had set big goals for myself.

I decided that reality is what ever you make it. My reality is that I can achieve anything I set my mind towards and take massive action to accomplish it. Something my aunt learned and then taught me which I am extremely grateful for is if someone gives criticism I ask myself “Is that true?” If the answer is yes than I can go from there but if the answer is no then I let it go.

I recently have dealt with criticism from someone close to me and I held onto it for a while and questioned why they said those things about me. I realized that it doesn’t matter what others think of me it matters what I think of myself and I shouldn’t let others make me feel bad. I think what bothered me so much is that the things this person said about me were things that I would have never even thought to say about them. Which is when I decided that I can’t always control what others say but I can decide how I move forward. That’s the key don’t ever start back pedaling, just do one foot in front of the other.

I must make a side note that there is a huge difference between someone giving constructive criticism and someone who is just being critical of you or your decisions. I don’t mind constructive criticism but I am very careful who I accept it from, I make sure they will steer me in the right direction and truly have my best interest at heart.

One thing I want you to know, is I don’t want you to ever question your ability based off of something someone said to you. Make sure you don’t quit on yourself just because someone may quit on you.
